Fudō Myōō

Fudō Myōō (Acala) is a Buddhist deity who offers salvation through profound compassion while relentlessly subjugating ignorance and evil. His wrathful countenance does not signify destruction for its own sake, but rather an unyielding resolve to sever worldly attachments and defilements, guiding souls toward true liberation. This work depicts his traditional attributes: the sacred sword that cleaves through evil and misfortune, the lasso that draws beings toward salvation, and the fiery aureole that consumes all earthly delusions. Encircling the deity, the motif of Garuda flames heightens his formidable intensity and purifying energy. Compassion dwelling within severity; salvation realized beyond destruction. Through these symbolic elements, the piece gives visual expression to the harmonious coexistence of fearsome power and boundless benevolence embodied by Fudō Myōō.
